Moore, Morrow lead hit parade in 22-6 win over North Georgia

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Adam Moore led Young Harris College with five hits and was one of three players to drive in four runs as Young Harris College defeated the University of North Georgia 22-5 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday (April 12) afternoon at Bob Stein Stadium.

The Mountain Lions improved to 24-19 overall and to 12-11 inside the conference while the Nighthawks fell to 17-21 and 5-15. The teams wrap up their three-game series Sunday (April 13) at 2 p.m.

Young Harris, which scored at least two runs in every inning but the second and the sixth, collected 26 hits as everyone in the lineup had at least a hit and five batters had as least three hits in the game. The 26 hits is the second-most in the program's four-year era, only being surpassed by the 30 hits against Mars Hill University during the 2011 season.

Moore had an RBI ground out and Tom Valichka, who went 2-for-6, doubled in another run as the Mountain Lions took a 2-0 lead in the first inning off UNG starter Clint Spratlin (2-4).

The Nighthawks got a run back in the second, but the Mountain Lions batted around in a six-run third to take an 8-1 lead. Pitcher Josh Rudnik (6-0), who went 3-for-6, helped his cause at the plate as he led off with his eighth homer of the season.  Trey Rogers, who drove in four runs, added a sacrifice fly and Bowen Klosinski, who went 3-for-5, coaxed a bases-loaded walk before Zach Odom, who went 3-for-5, closed out the scoring with a bases-clearing double to left.

Rogers added a two-run single in the fourth and David Atwood, who went 2-for-5, and Moore added RBI hits in the fifth. The Nighthawks got three runs in the sixth to close to within 12-4.

Moore stroked a two-run homer – his eighth of 2014 – to highlight a three-run seventh and Jack Morrow, who went 4-for-5, hit a grand slam as part of a five-run ninth inning. It was Morrow's team-leading ninth home run of the season.

James Mills earn his second save as he struck out four in three innings of relief for the Mountain Lions.
