Rudnik, Moore, Morrow power Mountain Lions past Warriors 11-5

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Josh Rudnik drove in four runs while Adam Moore and Jack Morrow each hit a home run as the Young Harris College baseball team rallied for a 10-5 non-conference victory over Southern Wesleyan University Tuesday (Feb. 25) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.

The Mountain Lions, who are 8-0 all-time against the Warriors, improved to 7-8 on the season while Southern Wesleyan fell to 6-9. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (March 1) with a 1 p.m. Central time Peach Belt Conference doubleheader in Montevallo, Ala., against the University of Montevallo.

Southern Wesleyan jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings. The Warriors got a RBI double down the right-field line from Julio Lara in the first before taking advantage  of two Young Harris errors in for a four-run (one earned) third inning.

Young Harris batted around in the fourth inning as they scored six times on six hits. Moore hit a solo homer – his third of 2014 – to left field to start the rally. Trey Rogers added a run-scoring through the right side and Zeke Gribble drew a bases-load walk to trim the deficit to 5-3. Zach Odom added a RBI single before Rudnik closed out the scoring with a two-run single to left as the Mountain Lions took a 6-5 lead.

The Mountain Lions didn't stop there as they added four more runs an inning later.  David Atwood drove in a run with a single to right-center field. Odom added another RBI hit before Rudnik's single up the middle scored two more runs to give Young Harris a 10-5 lead.  Young Harris added an insurance run on Morrow's homer to left field in the eighth inning. It was his second long ball of the season.

Morrow led the 14-hit attack for the Mountain Lions with three hits while Rudnik, Rogers, Zach Wall and Odom each collected two. Matt Arant led the Warriors with four hits while Lara added three more.

Oliver Pratt (1-0) earned the win in relief while starter J.J. Julian (0-1) absorbed the loss for the Warriors.
