YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College opened their home baseball schedule with an 8-2 non-conference victory over LeMoyne College Saturday (Feb. 15) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.
The Mountain Lions won their third consecutive game as they improved to 4-3 while the Syracuse, N.Y.-based Dolphins fell to 0-1. The four-game series continues with a noon doubleheader Sunday (Feb. 16).
Young Harris jumped on LeMoyne starter Ryan Davis (0-1) for three first-inning runs. David Atwood stroked a two-run double to right and Tom Valichka, who went 2-for-4, added a RBI single to left.
LeMoyne got two unearned back in the top of the fourth before the Mountain Lions added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings. Spencer Thomas, who went 2-for-4, contributed a RBI double to left-center field in the fourth before scoring an unearned run in the sixth.
The Mountain Lions closed out the scoring with a sacrifice fly by Jack Morrow in the seventh and a Trey Rogers' RBI double an inning later. Rogers also collected two hits for Young Harris.
Cody Beck (1-1) scattered four hits over six innings and struck out three to earn the win.
