Mountain Lions, Dolphins split doubleheader

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College used an eight-run fifth inning in the nightcap to rally for a split of their baseball doubleheader with LeMoyne College Sunday (Feb. 16) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.

The Mountain Lions took a 12-7 win in the second game after the Dolphins opened the twinbill with an 8-2 victory.

Young Harris improved to 5-4 while LeMoyne fell to 1-2. The teams wrap up their four-game series Monday (Feb. 17) with a noon contest.

LeMoyne took advantage of five Young Harris miscues in the opener to score four unearned runs in the opening. Pat Wright went 1-for-4 and drove in four runs, including a two-run homer to highlight a four-run fifth inning.  Jack Morrow accounted for both runs – an RBI grounder in the first and run-scoring single in the third - for the Mountain Lions.

Damian Powers (1-0) only allowed three hits in eight innings for the Dolphins while Justin Cooper (1-1) absorbed the loss.

The Mountain Lions sent 13 batters to the plate in the fifth inning in game two. Bowen Klosinski and David Atwood, who went 3-for-4, each had two-run singles in the rally. Trey Rogers started the rally with a sacrifice fly while Josh Rudnik, who went 3-for-5, drove in another with a ground out. Jack Morrow, who had a bases-clearing double in a four-run third inning, and Tom Valichka, who went 2-for-3,  each contributed a run-scoring single in the inning.

Tyler Isbell (1-0) picked up the win in relief for the Mountain Lions while Ben Walsh (0-1) took the loss.
