Wilson scores career-high 36 points as Mountain Lions rally for 93-92 OT win over Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Kevin Altidor's free throw with 1.1 seconds remaining in overtime was the difference as Young Harris College rallied for a 93-92 Peach Belt Conference decision over Flagler College Saturday (Dec. 20) afternoon at Flagler Gym.

The Mountain Lions improved to 5-3 overall and to 2-0 in the Peach Belt while the Saints fall to 5-4 and 0-2. Young Harris now breaks for the holiday and will return to action in the new year when the Mountain Lions travel to Morrow, Georgia, for a 3:30 p.m. league contest against Clayton State University Jan. 3.

Flagler, which overcame an 11-point deficit in the second half, forced the extra period when Lydell Manigo's layup with 52 seconds remaining, tied the game at 79. The Saints used a Jerrell Oxendine three-pointer and a Keshaun Hamilton jumper to open up an 87-82 lead with 3:01 remaining in overtime.

After a timeout, the Mountain Lions roared back with back-to-back old-fashioned three-point plays by Altidor and C.J. Wilson to retake the lead at 88-87 with 1:43 to play. After the teams swapped two free throws each, Altidor's dunk with 31 seconds to play gave Young Harris a 92-89 lead.

Flagler tied the game at 92 on its next possession as Oxendine drained a three-pointer with 20 second left. Wilson missed a jumper as the Mountain Lions tried to take the lead in the final seconds, but Altidor was able to grab the offensive rebound for Young Harris and was fouled on the play to set up the game-winning free throw.

Flagler had one last chance, but Matt Clark's halfcourt shot sailed wide at the final buzzer.

"It was a terrific college game," said Young Harris head coach Pete Herrmann. "Both teams played very strong. C.J. Wilson was just tremendous in all parts of the game.   Kevin got the big rebound and got fouled on the last shot. Herdie had two big threes in the flurry in overtime when we got down by five. It was a real tribute to the guys to come back and win the game. I'm very proud of the win."

Wilson led the Mountain Lions with a career-high 36 points on 13-of-23 shooting from the floor. The 36 points by Wilson, who also dished out six assists, is the third-most ever scored by a Young Harris player since the Mountain Lions resumed the program in 2010, Altidor finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Herdie Lawrence added 14 points, five assists and five rebounds. Isaiah Johnson tallied 11 points and six rebounds.

Hamilton led the Saints with 24 points and 11 rebounds while Manigo and Dennis Diaz each had 15 points. Manigo added eight rebounds while Diaz added six more. Kessler Bell had 12 points and nine rebounds and Oxendine added 14 points.
