LAKELAND, Fla. – Chan Fann and Sheresse Williams combined for 23 points for Young Harris College but it wasn't enough as the Mountain Lions fell to Florida Southern College 61-47 in a non-conference contest Saturday (Dec. 13) afternoon at the Jenkins Field House.
The Mocs improved to 5-2 while the Mountain Lions slipped to 3-4. Young Harris returns to action Thursday (Dec. 18) when they begin Peach Belt Conference play with a 5:30 p.m. game against Armstrong State University in Savannah, Georgia.
Florida Southern used a 10-2 run midway through the first half to open up an 18-9 lead on a jumper by Gianna Vastola with 9:04 remaining. The Mountain Lions trimmed the lead to 21-13 on a layup by Fann with 7:31 left, but the Mocs put together a 10-1 run to take a 31-14 lead on a Sydni Payne three-pointer with 2:54 to play before taking a 35-21 lead at the half.
Young Harris got as close as 12 points at three different points in the second half, but wasn't able to get any closer. Fann led the Mountain Lions with 12 points and six rebounds while Williams finished with 11 points. Peyton Robertson also contributed nine points.
Vastola was the lone Florida Southern player in double figures with 10 points.
