Demon Deacons defeat Mountain Lions in exhibition game

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Devin Thomas scored 26 points and added 11 rebounds as NCAA Division I Wake Forest University defeated Young Harris College 96-71 in a men's basketball exhibition game at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum Friday (Nov. 7) evening,

Thomas went 12-for-12 from the floor and recorded four blocked shots for the Demon Deacons, who never trailed in the game. Madison Jones added 16 points while Codi Miller-McIntyre added 14 more for Wake Forest, which shot 56.2 percent from the floor (41-of-73). Cornelius Hudson also finished in double figures with 11 points.

Kevin Altidor led the Mountain Lions with 19 points and nine rebounds while Isaiah Johnson had 13 points and Sam Mike added 12 more.

"I thought we improved from Sunday's game (against Western Carolina University)," said Young Harris head coach Pete Herrmann. "We played more of our type of game, but we still are out of character. We committed too many turnovers (Wake Forest scored 26 points off YHC's 23 turnovers) and struggled in transition defense.

"However, I thought it was a better performance overall for us," added Herrmann. "I thought we played more like we normally play. We were more aggressive and got to the free throw line more tonight."

The Mountain Lions will open their 2014-15 season Nov. 15 when they host Tennessee Temple University in a 3:30 p.m. homecoming contest at the YHC Basketball Arena.
