BANNER ELK, N.C. – Kaycee Cash recorded a double double – 13 points, 13 rebounds – as the Young Harris College women's basketball team recorded a 50-45 non-conference victory over Lees-McRae College Saturday (Nov. 22) afternoon at Williams Gymnasium.
The Mountain Lions improved to 2-1 and they return to action Tuesday (Nov. 25) with a 6 p.m. contest against Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. The Bobcats slipped to 2-2.
Young Harris, which trailed 27-26 at the half opened up a nine-point advantage – 37-28 – after a putback by Cash with 12:56 remaining as the Mountain Lions used an 11-1 run at the start of the second half.
Lees-McRae scored the next six points as they trimmed the lead to three points (37-34) as Alex Anderson hit a jumper with 10:12 left; however, that would be as the Bobcats would get as it would be the Mountain Lions turn to go on a run.
Young Harris put together a 9-2 run to open up its largest lead of the game – 10 points – when Cash deposited two free throws to open a 46-36 lead with 6:30 to place. The closest the Bobcats would get the remainder of the game was three points (48-45) after Kabrina Truesdale hit a layup with 2:33 to play, but Lees-McRae would not score another point the rest of the contest.
Rachel Harrell added nine points for the Mountain Lions while Peyton Robertson tossed in eight more. Anderson was the lone Bobcat in double figures with 12 points.
