Mountain Lions in second place at West Georgia tournament after records fall

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Young Harris College men's golf team is tied for second place after the first day of the UWG Matt Dyas Memorial hosted by the University of West Georgia Monday (Oct. 27).

The Mountain Lions are tied for second place in the 14-team field with fellow Peach Belt Conference institution Clayton State University at three-under par 573. Young Harris shot five-under par 283 in the morning round at the par 72 Oak Mountain Golf Club and followed it up with a 290 score in the afternoon. Host West Georgia leads the event at 562.

The 283 score tied the program's low round set earlier this year and the 573 total after 36 holes set a new program standard, surpassing the 576 set earlier this fall at the Full Moon BBQ Invitational.

David Wallin and Linus Manntz are tied for fourth place at six-under par 138 after 36 holes. The 138 scores also lowered the program's low-36 hole score of 142 set by Wallin at the Full Moon BBQ Invitational. Wallin shot identical rounds of 69 while Manntz had a 70 in the morning followed by a 68 in the afternoon. Delta State University's Reed Lindsey leads the tournament after putting back-to-back rounds of 67 together and stands at 134.

Clark Melton is tied for 29th place at 147 after rounds of 72 and 75 while Eli Crumley is tied for 41st at 150 with scores of 72 and 78. Adam Taylor shot rounds of 78 and 79 and is tied for 63rd place at 157.

The 54-hole tournament concludes Tuesday (Oct. 28) with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
