CALERA, Ala. – The Young Harris College men's golf team moved up a spot to sixth place after the final round Tuesday (Sept. 17) of the Full Moon Invitational hosted by the University of Montevallo.
The Mountain Lions shot a college-record low round of 292 on the par 71, 6,745-yard layout at Timberline Golf Club to finish the 36-hole tournament at 597. It was the first time all five Young Harris golfers shot in the 70s in the same round as the Mountain Lions tied their low 36-hole total in the process. Florida Institute of Technology won the tournament with a score of 564, 19 strokes better than Shorter University.
Melton earned his third career top-10 finish as he shot a final round 73 to shoot 144 for the tournament and finish in a tie for ninth place. Drew Wagner and Adam Taylor each carded the low round of the day for the Mountain Lions with a 72. Wagner tallied a two-round score of 148 to finish in a tie for 16th while Taylor finished in a tie for 23rd place at 151. Linus Manntz added a 75 and finished in a tie for 31st place at 154 and Reeves Bell registered a 78 and came in 40th at 159.
The Mountain Lions return to action Monday (Sept. 23) when they compete at the Jay Jennison Memorial in St. Augustine, Fla.
