Hurricanes sweep doubleheader from Young Harris

AMERICUS, Ga. – Georgia Southwestern State University swept a Peach Belt Conference baseball doubleheader against Young Harris College Saturday (April 13) afternoon at Hurricane Stadium.

Frank Ambrosino (1-6) tossed a four hit, 11 strikeout complete game effort as the Hurricanes took a 5-1 decision in game one while Georgia Southwestern State took game two 8-5.

Georgia Southwestern State improved to 14-25 overall and to 5-17 in the conference while the Mountain Lions slipped to 18-19 and 7-16. The two teams wrap up their weekend set with a noon contest Sunday (April 14).

Young Harris got its lone run in the opener when Jack Morrow had an RBI double to left in the ninth inning after David Atwood had singled.

Adam Moore (4-3) took the loss for the Mountain Lions.

Trey Rogers, who along with Atwood had two hits apiece in the nightcap, and Zach Bricknell homered for Young Harris in the second game, but Stephen Eldridge, Jarrod Taylor and Blane Parker each drove in two runs for the Hurricanes.  For Rogers, it was his sixth homer of 2013 while Bricknell continued to lead the conference with his 13th round tripper of the season.

Matthew Suggs (4-6) earned the win for Georgia Southwestern State while Bray Bishop earned his third save. Justin Cooper (2-5) took the loss for the Mountain Lions.
