CENTRAL, S.C. – Zach Bricknell and Trey Rogers combined to drive in five runs as Young Harris College pulled out a 6-5 non-conference baseball victory over Southern Wesleyan University Tuesday (April 16) evening at Connor Field.
The Mountain Lions leveled their record at 19-19 while the Warriors fell to 18-27. Young Harris returns to Zell B. Miller Field Wednesday (April 17) when they host Reinhardt University at 6 p.m.
Southern Wesleyan scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the first as they took advantage of one of the four errors committed by Young Harris in the game. Young Harris took the lead on Bricknell's Peach Belt Conference-leading 14th homer – a three-run blast – in the fourth after David Atwood singled and Jack Morrow walked.
The Warrior scored twice in the bottom of the fourth after another Young Harris miscue. The Mountain Lions tied the game at 4 in the fifth on Rogers' double down the left field line after Bowen Klosinski led off with a walk. Young Harris scored twice in the sixth to take a 6-4 lead. Young Harris used a SWU error to score the go-ahead run and Rogers contributed a sacrifice fly to center.
Southern Wesleyan got a run back in the bottom of the ninth as the Mountain Lions committed their final two errors, but James Mills earned his first save as he got Thomas Floyd to fly out to end the game with the tying run 90 feet away.
Miles Nagel (1-2) earned the win with three innings of relief while starter Chase McElrath (3-7) absorbed the loss for the Warriors.
Bricknell led Young Harris with three hits while Adam Moore and Atwood added two each in the 11-hit attack.
