WALESKA, Ga. – Trey Rogers and Zach Bricknell each homered as Young Harris College defeated Reinhardt University 6-2 in a non-conference baseball game Thursday (Feb. 14) afternoon at Ken White Field.
The Mountain Lions won their third consecutive game as they improved to 3-2 while the Eagles dipped to 1-3. Young Harris continues the road trip Saturday (Feb. 16) with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Point University in West Point, Ga.
Rogers, who went 3-for-5, took a 0-1 pitch from Reinhardt starter Matt Hartwell (0-1) in the top of the first and deposited it down the left-field line over the fence for his second homer of the 2013 campaign. The Mountain Lions added an unearned run in the fifth on Dom Wyshinski's double down the right-field line to take a 2-0 lead.
The Mountain Lions doubled their lead when Bricknell, who went 3-for-5, hit his first home run of 2012 when he sent a 0-2 pitch over the left field wall. David Atwood began the inning by drawing a walk off reliever Brett Snell.
Reinhardt got single runs back in the seventh and eighth innings to pull within two runs at 4-2. Reliever Cody Beck, who notched his first save, got the Mountain Lions out of further harm as worked out of a two runners in scoring position jam with one out.
Young Harris added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth on Atwood's two-run double down the right-field line to take a 6-2 lead.
William Leatherwood (1-0) earned the win with 2 2/3 innings of relief for the Mountain Lions.
