CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Young Harris College men's golf team moved up three spots to fifth place at the UWG Matt Dyas Invitational hosted by the University of West Georgia Tuesday (Oct. 29) afternoon. It was best finish for the Mountain Lions this fall.
The Mountain Lions shot 292 on the par 72, 7,026-yard layout at the Oak Mountain Championship Golf Club to tie their low round in the program's history. In the process, Young Harris established a new low-54 hole score at 891, 18 strokes lower than the previous record of 909 set earlier this year at the Jay Jennison Memorial. Tournament host West Georgia won the event with a score of 853, 15 strokes better than Clayton State University.
Three players – Clark Melton, Linus Manntz and Drew Wagner – established new low 54-hole totals at the tournament. Melton tied for 14th place after a 73 put him at 220. Manntz fired his second consecutive 74 and came in a tie for 24th place at 224 while Eli Crumley and Wagner each tied for 27th place at 226. Crumley carded an even par 72 while Wagner added a 73. Adam Taylor rounded out play with an 83 and came in 53rd place at 238.
This tournament marked the end of the fall season for the Mountain Lions.
