CLARKESVILLE, Ga. –Clark Melton and Young Harris College captured the individual and team titles at the Piedmont Fall Invitational men's golf tournament Tuesday (Sept. 11) afternoon at The Orchard Golf & Country Club.
Melton, a 5-foot-9 freshman from Cleveland, Tenn., earned medalist honors in his first collegiate golf tournament as he shot 73 on the par 72, 6,736-yard layout to finish the 36-hole tournament at 145. The Mountain Lions, who set a new college standard for an 18-hole score (295) Monday (Sept. 10), shot a 302 in the final round to set a new 36-hole record at 597. They won the team title by 12 strokes over Covenant College.
Besides Melton, Young Harris had two other players named to the all-tournament team as Matthew Peeler finished in third place at 148 and Adam Taylor tied for fourth place at 150. Peeler and Taylor each carded final rounds of 75. Parker Hulme finished in a tie for 10th after an 81 put him at 156, while Cameron Medina tied for 22nd place at 164 after a 79.
The Mountain Lions return to action Monday (Sept. 17) as they travel to St. Simon Island, Ga., to compete in the Coastal Georgia Fall Invitational.
