Morrow, Bricknell lead Mountain Lions to doubleheader sweep of Tigers

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College hit five home runs as the Mountain Lions swept a baseball doubleheader from Hiwassee College Friday (April 20) evening on Alumni Weekend at Zell B. Miller Field.

Jack Morrow hit two homers and drove in a college-record eight runs and Zach Bricknell hit another as the Mountain Lions defeated the Tigers 15-0 in the opener. Bricknell connected on two more long balls as Young Harris claimed the nightcap 9-2.

The Mountain Lions, who have outscored the Tigers 60-3 in five games this season, won their fifth consecutive game as they improved to 34-10. The two teams wrap up their three-game series with a 2 p.m. contest Saturday.

Young Harris scored in every inning but the third in game one. The Mountain Lions jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first. Morrow, who went 4-for-5 and was a triple short of hitting for the cycle, drove in the first two with his double to right-center. Adam Moore followed with an RBI triple to right field while Bowen Klosinski added a run-scoring infield hit.

The Mountain Lions added a run in the second on Morrow's RBI single to left and two more in the fourth on Morrow's homer to left.  Young Harris broke the game open with a seven-run fifth. Trey Rogers, who went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI, had a two-run triple to right-center. Morrow hit his 10th homer of the season – a three-run blast to left – and Bricknell added a two-run homer to right.

James Mills (3-0) earned the win as he allowed just two hits in five innings of work.

Young Harris took a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the second game. David Atwood, who went 2-for-3, had a run-scoring double to right-center. Bricknell, who leads the team with 12 homers, hit a two-run shot to right.

The Mountain Lions added a run in the third on Tyler Spradlin's sacrifice fly before Bricknell, who drove in five runs in game two, had a three-run homer to right to highlight a five-run fifth inning. Atwood drove in the other two runs in the fifth on a double to left-center field.
