ELIZABETHTOWN, N.C. – The Young Harris College men's golf team finished in 13th place at the Carolina Sands Intercollegiate hosted by UNC Pembroke.
The Mountain Lions shot 316 on the par 72, 6,931-yard layout on the Carolina Sands Golf Course at White Lake in the final round to finish the rain-shortened 36-hole tournament at 630. Wingate University won the 15-team event at 556 after carding a 279. The Bulldogs finished nine strokes in front of UNCP.
Matthew Peeler shot a one-over par 73 to finish the tournament at 150, good for a tie for 38th place. Chase Hankla came in a tie for 59th place at 157 after shooting a 76. Cameron Medina tied for 66th after an 82 put him at 159 while Jesse Brock tied for 71st place at 164 after an 85. Parker Hulme carded an 88 and finished in a tie for 78th at 171.
Wingate's Brian Denton earned medalist honors in the 81-player field on the third hole of a playoff after finishing the two-day tournament at 137.
Young Harris returns to the course for the final time this season Monday (April 2) when they compete in the Piedmont Spring Invitational in Clarkesville, Ga.
