Young Harris sweeps series from Crusaders

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Zeke Gribble's two-out bases-clearing double to right field in the bottom of the sixth gave Young Harris College baseball team the lead for good as the Mountain Lions defeated Tennessee Temple University 8-5 Saturday (April 14) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.

Young Harris swept the three-game weekend series with the Crusaders and improved to 32-10 while Tennessee Temple fell to 12-31-1. The Mountain Lions return to action Friday (April 20) when they host Hiwassee College in a 5 p.m. Alumni Weekend doubleheader.

With the game tied at 2, the Mountain Lions rallied in the sixth. David Atwood, who went 3-for-4, led off with a double to center and Jack Morrow reached on an error. Zach Bricknell, who went 3-for-3, singled through the right side to load the bases before Gribble cleared the bases with a double to right and gave Young Harris a 5-2 lead.

Young Harris added two insurance runs to take a 7-2 lead an inning later when Atwood stroked his sixth homer – a two-run homer to left-center field – of the season.

Tennessee Temple got three runs – two unearned – back in the eighth before the Mountain Lions closed out the scoring in the eighth as Spencer Thomas added a RBI single through the right side.

William Leatherwood (1-0) earned the win in relief while Taylor Topping earned his first save with a scoreless ninth inning.
