Saint Leo defeats Mountain Lions 18-6

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Anthony Santa and Daniel Torres combined to drive in nine runs as Saint Leo University defeated Young Harris College 18-6 in a college baseball game Sunday (March 4) afternoon at Southard Stadium.

The Lions, who scored at least one run in the first six innings, improved to 12-4 with their second consecutive win over the Mountain Lions, who fell to 14-6. The two teams wrap up their three-game series with a 6 p.m. contest Monday (March 5) evening.

Adam Moore's fourth home run of the season gave Young Harris a 1-0 lead in the first before Saint Leo tied the game in its half of the inning. The Lions took the lead with a four-run second inning off Young Harris starter Taylor Topping (1-1). Frank Rawdow led off with his first homer of the season to left-center field and Santa cleared the bases with a double to center.

The Mountain Lions got a run back in the third on a ground out by Josh Rudnik before Saint Leo added two more on Daniel Torres' homer – his second of the year - in its half of the inning to take a 7-2 lead.

Young Harris scored an unearned run in the fourth before the Lions put the game out of reach with six unearned runs in their half to take a 13-3 lead.  Torres and Brendan Collins each had two-run singles in the outburst.

"When you play good teams, you have to play good baseball," said Young Harris head coach Rick Robinson. "Today we didn't play good baseball."

Saint Leo pushed its lead to 18-3 with two runs in the fourth and three more an inning later. Santa had a two-run double in the sixth. The Mountain Lions scored twice in the seventh on a singles by Spencer Thomas and Zach Bricknell. Young Harris scored a final unearned run in the ninth.

Starter Charles Neely (3-1) struck out seven in 6 1/3 innings to earn the win for the Lions.
