SAINT LEO, Fla. – Young Harris College behind the complete-game effort of Josh Rudnik took the finale of its baseball series with Saint Leo University 6-2 Monday (March 5) evening at Southard Stadium.
The Mountain Lions improved to 15-6 while the Lions fell to 12-5. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (March 10) with two games at Zell B. Miller Field. The Mountain Lions will face Waldorf University at 3:30 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. encounter with Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Trey Rogers gave Young Harris a 1-0 lead in the third inning off Saint Leo starter Rick Teasley (3-1) with his third homer of the season. After Zach Bricknell reached on an error in the fourth, Jack Morrow hit his team-leading sixth homer – a two-run shot down the left field line – in the fourth to give the Mountain Lions a 3-0 lead.
Saint Leo got a run back in its half of the fourth as Chris Newcomb led off with his second home run of the season. David Atwood's RBI double in the fifth made the score 4-1 in favor of the Mountain Lions. The Lions added an unearned run in the sixth before Young Harris scored two insurance runs – both unearned - in the eighth.
Rudnik (3-0), who leads the Mountain Lions with a 1.82 ERA, scattered six hits and struck out five as he tossed his third complete game in 2012.
