ELIZABETHTOWN, N.C. – The Young Harris College men's golf team is in 14th place after the first round Saturday (March 31) of the Carolina Sands Intercollegiate hosted by UNC Pembroke.
The Mountain Lions shot a round of 314 on the par 72, 6,931-yard layout on the Carolina Sands Golf Course at White Lake. Wingate University leads the 15-team field after firing a 277, four strokes ahead of second-place Barton College.
Teammates Cameron Medina and Matthew Peeler are tied for 54th place after rounds of 77 while Jesse Brock is 63rd at 79. Chase Hankla had an 81 and is tied for 69th place while Parker Hulme shot an 83 and is tied for 78th.
Brevard College's Kim Koivu leads the 81-player field after registering a six-under par 66.
The 54-hole tournament was shortened to 36 holes after heavy rains delayed the start of the tournament, which concludes Sunday (April 1).
