CLAYTON, Ga. – The Young Harris College men's golf team finished in second place at the Georgia Mountains Trophy that was played Wednesday and Thursday (Sept. 28-29) at the Kingwood Resort.
The event featured the small colleges of northeast Georgia competing each fall for annual rights to the rotating trophy.
The Mountain Lions finished the 36-hole tournament with a score of 617 after rounds of 301 and 316 on the par 70, 6,296-yard layout. Piedmont College rallied to win the tournament by four strokes over Young Harris as they shot 308 in the final round to finish at 613.
Young Harris had two all-tournament performers. Matthew Peeler finished in third place after rounds of 70 (career low) and 79 to finish one stroke out of first place at 149 while Chase Hankla placed fifth at 153 after scores of 75 and 78. Caleb Kelley finished ninth at 157 after carding scores of 78 and 79 while Cameron Medina tied for 10th at 158 (78 and 80). Jesse Brock tallied a score of 162 (78 and 84) and finished in 13th.
The Mountain Lions return to action Monday (Oct. 3) when they travel to Rome, Ga., to take part in the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational.
