YOUNG HARRIS – Adam Moore fanned seven in seven innings and Josh Rudnik drove in six as the Young Harris College baseball team ended the home portion of its schedule with a 10-1 victory over Toccoa Falls on Friday afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.
The Mountain Lions (28-21) opened the scoring with four runs on five hits in the bottom of the first inning.
Tommy Ferguson began the frame with a base hit to left and advanced all the way to third on a hit-and-run as David Atwood singled through the right side. Rudnik, who went 3-for-5, followed with a single up the middle to plate Ferguson. With one down, Jack Morrow, who was 2-for-5, ripped a base hit through the left side, scoring Atwood. Rudnik came in to score on a sacrifice fly to center by Trey Rogers. Zach Bricknell, who went 2-for-4, followed with a double down the right field line to plate Morrow.
The Eagles (22-15) cut the margin to 4-1 with a run in the fifth.
Young Harris broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth as Mike Medori reached on an error with one out and took second when Ryan LaRose, who went 2-for-3, singled to right center. Ferguson moved Medori to third on a sacrifice fly to left. Atwood drew a two-out walk to load the bases. Rudnik cleared the bases with a single to right center, plating Medori, LaRose and Atwood, extending to advantage to 7-1.
The Mountain Lions put the game way with three runs on five hits in the eighth to take a 10-1 lead.
Moore, who faced 28 batters and had 23 first-pitch strikes, improved to 7-3 after working seven innings. He gave up three hits and one unearned run, while fanning seven. Oliver Pratt and Brice Merritt pitched in relief.
Micah Ellington took the loss in surrendering 10 runs on 15 hits with a pair of walks in 7.2 innings. David Brown worked in relief.
