AIKEN, S.C. – The Young Harris College baseball team ended the season on Monday night with a 5-0 loss to Peach Belt Conference member USC-Aiken at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
USC-Aiken (28-20) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning off Young Harris starting pitcher Josh Rudnik as the Pacers loaded the bases, but got a run on two hits to grab an early 1-0 lead.
The Pacers scored a run in the second, one in the fourth and extended the lead to 5-0 with a pair of runs in the fifth.
Young Harris (28-22) had a chance to cut the deficit in the seventh as Trey Rogers, who went 2-for-5, singled up the middle and advanced to second when Adam Moore reached on an infield hit with two outs. Mike Medori walked to load the bases. However, Tommy Ferguson flied out to center to end the threat.
Rudnik (4-4) took the loss in going four innings. He surrendered three runs (two earned) on five hits with a pair of walks. Taylor Topping and Brice Merritt pitched in relief.
Taylor Peed (2-0) earned the win in seven shutout innings. He scattered six hits, fanned three and walked two. Joe Tart and Taylor Grover worked in relief.
