YOUNG HARRIS – Josh Rudnik delivered a clutch two-out RBI double as the Young Harris College baseball team rallied from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Southern Wesleyan, 4-3, on Wednesday afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.
Southern Wesleyan (13-37) broke the scoreless tie in the third inning with three runs on four hits to take a 3-0 lead.
Young Harris (27-21) rallied with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth as David Atwood drew a base on balls to begin the frame and scored when Rudnik, who went 2-for-4, blasted a two-run homer to left, cutting the deficit to 3-2.
The Mountain Lions got a run in the fifth as Mike Medori singled to start the inning and with one out, took second on a wild pitch. Medori advanced to third on a sacrifice fly to left by Trey Rogers and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 3.
Young Harris earned the win in the ninth as Adam Moore drew a lead-off walk to begin the frame and Tommy Ferguson, who went 2-for-3, reached on a bunt single. Zeke Gribble reached on a fielder’s choice as Moore was out at third. With two outs, Rudnik delivered a double to the gap in right center for the game-winning hit as Ferguson scored.
Travis Donahoo started for Young Harris, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits with a pair of strikeouts in 2.1 innings. Tyler Isbell (5-1) earned the win in relief by working 6.2 innings. He fanned five, walked one and gave up a pair of hits.
Luke Sawyer worked five innings for the Warriors as he surrendered three runs on just two hits with a pair of walks. Nowlan Allen, Brandon Warne and Tim Cummings pitched in relief.
