EAST POINT, Ga. - The Young Harris College baseball team traveled Wednesday to Atlanta Christian College (5-5) and split a midweek doubleheader with the Chargers, winning the first game 5-4 before dropping the second, 6-3.
After trailing 1-0 early in first game, the Mountain Lions (2-7) used a five-run third inning, highlighted by a David Atwood two-run double, to give Young Harris a commanding 5-1 lead. Pitchers Travis Donahoo, Billy Demersky, and Tyler Isbell, were effective on the mound for the Mountain Lions, with Demersky being credited with the win, and Isbell managing to wiggle out of a jam in the final inning to record the save. Offensively, Atwood (2 for 3, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 R), Tommy Ferguson (2 for 3, 1 R), Zach Bricknell (2 for 4, 1 R), and Josh Rudnik (2 for 4, 2 RBI, 1 R) had a productive game for the Mountain Lions.
In the second game, Ferguson (1 for 4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 R) and Rudnik (1 for 3, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 R) both homered for Young Harris as they fell 6-3. Down by two runs entering the 5th inning, Ferguson crushed a homerun to left field, and one inning later Rudnik hit and opposite-field homerun to tie the score at three. The Mountain Lions were not able to hold off a late-inning Charger comeback and lost by a score of 6-3.
