DUE WEST, S.C. | Five different mountain lions each scored a goal to lift Young Harris College to a 5-0 win over Erskine College in a Conference Carolinas women's soccer match on Tuesday (Sept. 8) afternoon at Lundy Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Flying Fleet fell to 0-4 and 0-2. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Sept. 12) afternoon when it hosts King University at 1 p.m.
Young Harris controlled the match from start to finish, outshooting Erskine 32-4 while placing 17 attempts on goal.
Alessandra Brown opened the scoring in the 16th minute, finding the back of the net for her second goal of the season. Lauren Gauthier doubled the advantage just before halftime, scoring in the 40th minute off an assist from Charlotte Brown to send YHC into the break with a 2-0 lead.
The Mountain Lions continued to apply pressure in the second half. Betsy Bu made it 3-0 in the 50th minute before Mariah Nwaigwe added another goal less than nine minutes later. Kenna Bothe capped the scoring in the 89th minute with her first goal of the season.
Young Harris also held a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks and limited the Flying Fleet to just three shots on goal. Emily Jantz played all 90 minutes in net, making three saves to record the shutout.
