DAHLONEGA, Ga. | The Young Harris College women's soccer team fell 6-1 to the University of North Georgia Sunday (Aug. 30) afternoon in its first road match of the season at the UNG Soccer Complex.
The Nighthawks improved to 2-0 while the Mountain Lions fell to 0-2 on the season.
North Georgia opened the scoring in the seventh minute before Young Harris responded at the 16:32 mark.
Kennedy Blake found the back of the net for her first goal of the season, tying the match at 1 each. The Nighthawks regained the lead in the 29
th minute and carried a 2-1 advantage into halftime.
The Mountain Lions trailed by just one for the opening 24 minutes of the second half before North Georgia extended its lead with goals in the 70
th and 73
rd minutes. The Nighthawks added two more goals in the closing minutes to secure the win.
Young Harris finished with eight shots, including seven on goal.
Betsy Bu led the team with four shots with three on goal, while
Faith Niebrugge,
Clara Allen and
Sophia de Amorim Sousa recorded one shot on goal each. Goalkeeper
Emily Jantz made six saves in the net for the Mountain Lions.
Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (Sept. 2) evening as it hosts Mars Hill University at 5 p.m.
