YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College women's soccer team earned its first victory of the 2026 season Wednesday (Sept. 2) evening, defeating Mars Hill University 3-1 at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 1-2-0 while the Lions fell to 1-1-0 on the season. YHC returns to action Saturday (Sept. 5) afternoon, hosting Southern Wesleyan University in its Conference Carolinas opener. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
Young Harris opened the scoring in the 26
th minute when
Clara Allen found the back of the net off an assist from
Charlotte Brown. The Mountain Lions doubled their advantage just before halftime as
Mackenzie Tooke scored in the 40
th minute with an assist from
Alessandra Brown.
Mars Hill cut the deficit to one in the 67
th minute on a goal from Leah Krugh, but Young Harris responded with a goal from
Sophia de Amorim Sousa in the 76
th minute off assists from
Faith Niebrugge and
Mariah Nwaigwe to help secure the win.
Goalkeeper
Emily Jantz recorded 10 saves in the net while only allowing one goal for the Mountain Lions.
