FRANKFORT, Ky. | The Young Harris College volleyball team opened its season with a pair of victories Friday (Aug. 28) at the Kentucky State University tournament, taking down Kentucky State and Georgetown College (Ky.) in four sets to start the year 2-0.
The Mountain Lions opened the day with a 3-1 win over host Kentucky State. After dropping the opening set 25-21, Young Harris responded by taking the next three sets 25-14, 25-22, and 25-21.
Hannah Depp led the way with 14 kills, while
Mary Margaret Wilson followed with nine and a team-high 14 digs.
Lyza Thigpen led the team with 25 assists and added six service aces.
Young Harris followed with another 3-1 win against Georgetown, bouncing back from a 25-23 first set loss to claim the final three frames 25-23, 25-23, and 25-16.
Lauren DeSilets led the Mountain Lions with 16 kills and
Kathryn Urbanek added nine kills with five blocks.
Lexie Martin led the Young Harris defense with 20 digs and also recorded four service aces.
The Mountain Lions will close out the tournament Saturday (Aug. 29) as they face Shawnee State University at 9 a.m. and Kentucky Wesleyan College at 1 p.m.
