Box Score YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College Women's Tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 18 Columbus State on Thursday (Apr. 2) afternoon at the Bob and Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex.
The Mountain Lions (11-5) opened doubles play with a strong showing at No. 1, as Maud Scholten and Futaba Saito earned a 6-0 victory over Nikoline Gullacksen and Claudia De Lucas. However, Columbus State (7-4) responded with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to claim the doubles point. Isabell Ek and Laura Pesickova defeated Viviana Gomez and Holly Ashford 6-3 at No. 2, while Maria Markosov and Annie Adams secured a 6-2 win over Lexie Gillespie and Isabella Ezeta at No. 3.
In singles play, the Cougars clinched the match with straight-set victories at No. 3, No. 4, and No. 2. Claudia De Lucas defeated Ashford 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3, Sofia Lauretti followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Gomez at No. 4, and Monika Temkova secured the final point with a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Tuva Asplund at No. 2.
Three additional singles matches went unfinished after the match was decided. At No. 1, Saito won the opening set 6-3 and trailed 5-2 in the second set against Gullacksen when play was halted. At No. 5, Stanfield dropped the first set 6-4 and trailed 3-? in the second set against Ek before the match was stopped. At No. 6, Gillespie won the first set 6-3 and was tied 2-2 in the second set against Markosov when play was halted.
Young Harris falls to 11-5 overall, while Columbus State improves to 7-4.
