SPARTANBURG, S.C. | The Young Harris College women's golf team wrapped up play at the Conference Carolinas Championship with a T-9th place finish behind a top 10 performance from senior Lucy Wiegert, posting a three-round team total of 983. The Mountain Lions opened with a 323 in round one, followed by a 340 in round two, and closed strong with a 320 in the final round on the par-72 course.
Young Harris showed resilience throughout the tournament, bouncing back from a challenging second round to deliver their best score of the event in round three.
QUOTE FROM DIRECTOR OF GOLF JOHN LICHTENWALNER:
"Slightly better than expected finish, as we were picked 10th in the pre season poll. Really happy for Lucy, who shot the low final round of the tournament and was able to sneak into the top 10. We will really miss her and Tamara next year, as they set a great example for our younger players.
I'm excited for the next few years with our current group. They work hard and have a strong desire to improve. This year was a step in the right direction and I anticipate our scoring average dropping next season."
