YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Mountain Lions closed out the regular season with a dominant 7-0 sweep over Shorter University at the Bob & Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex on Wednesday afternoon (Apr. 16). The win marked a strong finish to Conference Carolinas play, as Young Harris honored its seniors and put on a clinic from start to finish.
The Mountain Lions move to 8-14 overall and 6-4 in Conference Carolinas action, while the Hawks drop to 0-10 overall.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Simone Mercier and Futaba Saito handled business on Court 1, picking up a 6-2 win in doubles. Holly Ashford and Maud Scholten sealed the doubles point with a 6-3 victory on Court 2, followed by a swift 6-2 win on Court 3 by Isabella Ezeta and Viviana Gomez.
- Young Harris didn't drop a single match in singles play. Maud Scholten kicked things off with a tight two-set win on the top court (7-5, 6-4).
- Futaba Saito cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 decision on Court 3, and Andreia Semeano mirrored that effort with a 6-1, 6-2 result at the No. 4 spot.
- Callie Stanfield stepped up with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 performance at No. 5, while Isabella Ezeta locked things down with a 6-1, 6-0 sweep on Court 6.
- Viviana Gomez was up 3-2 in the opening set before her opponent retired on Court 2, securing the point.
