YH Women's Tennis Fall to the Falcons, 1-6

The Young Harris College women's tennis team put up a determined effort against the University of Montevallo but came up short in a 6-1 decision at the Bob & Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex.

Match Recap:

The Mountain Lions battled throughout the match, forcing multiple close contests in both singles and doubles play.

In doubles, the No. 3 team of Holly Ashford and Maud Scholten delivered a strong performance, securing a 6-2 victory to highlight the opening matches. The No. 2 pairing of Andreia Semeano and Callie Stanfield fought hard before narrowly falling in a 7-5 battle.

In singles action, Simone Mercier started strong at the No. 1 spot, winning the first set 6-4, but Montevallo's Klara Podskubkova rallied back to take the next two sets 6-2, 6-4. Viviana Gomez also extended her match to three sets, bouncing back with a 6-4 second-set win before dropping the final frame.

Futaba Saito nearly pulled out a victory at No. 4, winning the first set 7-5, before coming up just short in a tight third-set tiebreaker. Callie Stanfield also pushed her match to a first-set tiebreaker before Montevallo edged her out 7-6, 6-2.

The Mountain Lions will look to regroup and get back in the win column as they continue Conference Carolinas play. Young Harris returns to action on Friday (March 21) against North Greenville University in Young Harris, Georgia.
