Jantz Shines as Mountain Lions Advance in Conference Carolinas Tournament with 1-0 Win Over UMO

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College Women's Soccer team delivered a clutch performance on Wednesday evening (Nov. 5), defeating the University of Mount Olive 1-0 in a pivotal Conference Carolinas Tournament matchup at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field. Head coach Avram Allen has led this team to the first 10-win season in program history (D2 era).

With the win, the Mountain Lions (10-5-3, 8-2-3 CC) punched their ticket to the Quarterfinals, where they'll face Emmanuel University in a high-stakes Roar War showdown on Saturday (Nov. 8) at 5:30 PM in Franklin Springs, Georgia. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

  • Player of the Match: Senior goalkeeper Emily Jantz was sensational between the posts, recording seven saves and securing another clean sheet to add to her collection. Her commanding presence and clutch stops kept the Trojans (5-11-3, 2-8-3 CC) off the scoreboard. 

  • Game-Winner: In the 69th minute, Sunny Bowlin-Stacy broke the deadlock with her 11th goal of the season, finishing a well-placed assist from Meghan Goolsby to give Young Harris the lead. 

  • The Mountain Lions matched Mount Olive in fouls (12 each) and held firm despite the Trojans outshooting them 12-7 (7-5 on goal). 

  • In a rare stat line, neither team earned a corner kick throughout the match, underscoring the midfield battle and defensive discipline on both sides. 

  • UMO Goalkeeper Anais Coyne made four saves in a full 90-minute effort, keeping her team within striking distance until the final whistle.

Young Harris heads to Emmanuel University for the Quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Tournament. The Mountain Lions will look to carry their momentum into Franklin Springs for a fierce Roar War clash on Saturday (Nov. 8) at 5:30 PM.
