Mountain Lions Split Opening Weekend at Conference Challenge Classic

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. | Young Harris College Women's Basketball opened the 2025-26 season with a 1-1 record after competing in the Conference Challenge Classic at Shaw Athletic Center. The Mountain Lions earned a strong win over Georgia College on Friday (Nov. 14) before falling to the University of North Georgia on Saturday (Nov. 15). 

Game 1: (Young Harris 61, Georgia College 49) 

The Mountain Lions started their season on a high note, defeating Georgia College 61-49 in Friday's matchup. Young Harris used a dominant third quarter, outscoring the Bobcats 22-11, to pull away and secure the victory. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

  • Kamryn Bates led the Mountain Lions with 13 points, shooting 5-of-10 from the field and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. 

  • Lilly Griffith contributed eight points and pulled down nine rebounds while dishing out four assists. 

  • Young Harris shot 40.0% from the field and 35.7% from three-point range, knocking down 10 triples. 

  • The Mountain Lions scored 26 points in the paint and converted 18 points off turnovers. 

  • Georgia College was paced by Deshona Gaither, who scored 12 points and went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. 

Game 2: (North Georgia 64, Young Harris 52) 

On Saturday, Young Harris battled hard but fell 64-52 to North Georgia. The game featured nine ties and five lead changes before the Nighthawks pulled away late in the second half. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (North Georgia):

  • Rhiannon Saller delivered a standout performance, scoring a game-high 21 points on 10-of-18 shooting while adding eight rebounds. 

  • Young Harris dominated the paint with 34 points inside. 

  • The Mountain Lions held North Georgia to 15.8% from three, but the Nighthawks capitalized at the free-throw line, going 23-of-26 (88.5%). 

  • North Georgia was led by Caroline Martin, who scored 19 points and hit 11-of-12 free throws.

The Mountain Lions return to action on Wednesday (Nov. 19) when they travel to face Tusculum University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM.
