Browns Summit, N.C. | The No. 2 seed Young Harris College men's soccer team earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory over No. 3 seed Chowan University on Saturday (Nov. 8) evening in the Conference Carolinas Tournament semifinals, knocking the Hawks out of the race and advances to the championship match.
The Mountain Lions opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Ignacio Arribere headed home a corner kick from Thomas Kleinpenning. Chowan responded with an equalizer from Jeevan Purewal with 10:56 remaining in the first half, then took the lead just before halftime as Clayton Verdin scored with two seconds left.
Young Harris rallied in the second half. Thomas Kleinpenning tied the match at 2-2 with 9:52 left in regulation, and Leho Le Louarn delivered the game-winner in the 83rd minute off an assist from Filip Zander, sending YHC into the finale.
With the win, Young Harris improves 11-1-1 in the conference (14-1-3 overall), while Chowan completed their season with a conference record of 7-2-3 (10-4-4 overall).
