YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College Men's Soccer team celebrated Senior Day with a commanding 5-1 victory over Shorter University on Saturday (Nov. 1) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
Filip Zander got the Mountain Lions off to a fast start, scoring twice in the first half. His first came in the 15th minute off a setup from Daniel Osorno, and he added another in the 42nd minute with help from Amin El Ghazi.
Shorter pulled one back in the 56th minute, but Young Harris responded with three goals in a three-minute span late in the second half. Leo Skogsfjord scored his first goal of the season in the 83rd minute, assisted by Ezekiel Ortiz. Just over a minute later, Bjarne Renner found the back of the net off another Osorno assist. Ortiz capped the scoring with a penalty kick goal in the 86th minute.
With the win, Young Harris improves to 12-1-3 overall and 11-1-1 in Conference Carolinas play, clinching the No. 2 seed in the upcoming 2025 Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Tournament. Shorter falls to 3-13-0 overall and 3-10-0 in conference action.
