MURFREESBORO, N.C. | Young Harris volleyball dropped a three-set match to Chowan University Friday evening, falling 25-21, 25-13, and 25-20 in Conference Carolinas action.Â
The Mountain Lions (4-11, 1-6 CC) started strong in the opening set, hitting .209 with 16 kills, but couldn't maintain momentum as Chowan (3-12, 2-5 CC) responded with a dominant second set and closed out the match in the third.Â
Abby Schirm led Young Harris with 11 kills and added 11 digs and a block, while Hannah Depp contributed six kills and five digs. Alexa Berry hit .400 with four kills and three blocks. Linsey Burke paced the offense with 17 assists and added 12 digs, and Lexie Martin anchored the defense with a match-high 22 digs.Â
Despite a solid defensive effort, Young Harris was out-hit .176 to .086 and trailed in total kills (40-32), assists (37-28), and digs (77-69). Chowan's Gabriella Figueroa led all players with 11 kills and added 13 points, while Diana Rodriguez recorded a game-high 35 digs.Â
