Volleyball Falls to Lee in Season Opener

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Young Harris College Volleyball dropped their season opener against Lee on Friday afternoon. The Flames won 3-0 for their second victory of the day at the Bobcat Classic. Junior Abby Schirm led the Mountain Lions offense with ten kills.

QUOTING HEAD COACH JENNY MICHAEL
"The outcome of roughly 80% of matches can be determined by the winner of the serve and serve-receive battle. We contributed to the accuracy of that statistic tonight as we struggled in both areas. Fortunately, tomorrow brings us a new day and an opportunity to demonstrate resiliency."

HOW IT HAPPENED
Young Harris started off in a 6-1 deficit. The Purple and White then rattled off four straight points to bring it back within one. Another flurry of offense saw the Mountain Lions take their first lead of the match, 9-8. Back-to-back kills from Rylie Springer extended the lead to 14-11. From that point on, Lee took the momentum and kept it, turning the 15 all tie into a 25-16 first set victory.

The start of the second set was back-and-forth with Young Harris taking the early 11-10 advantage thanks to kills from Kathryn Urbanek, Nicole Klucharich, Abby Schirm, and Rylie Springer. Both sides traded three points and later in the set, a kill from Schirm brought the deficit to 19-18. The flames rattled off six of the next seven points to take the second set. Lee finished the set with 18 kills on 43 total attacks.

The Flames jumped out to an early 12-5 advantage in the third set. Kills from YHC's Urbanek and Shelby Mullins made it 12-7. Two points later, Lily Hidalgo slammed one to the hardwood, which made it 13-8. At 15-10, Lee found another level of offense, scoring the next ten points to take the match in straight sets (25-16, 25-19, and 25-10).

NOTABLE STATS UP NEXT
Young Harris gets right back to it with two more matches tomorrow at the Bobcat Classic. First, the Mountain Lions face Albany State University at 11:30 a.m. and then close out the tournament with a nightcap at 7:00 p.m. against hosts Georgia College.
