Mountain Lions Announce the Addition of Former Player Meghna Mallath to Tennis Coaching Staff

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College tennis team and head coach Marcy O'Connor are excited to publicize the introduction of Young Harris College alum Meghna Mallath to the tennis coaching staff. 

Meghna Mallath, from Mumbai, India, came to the Enchanted Valley in 2021, while the Mountain Lions were under the direction of coach Andrew Cobb. Mallath played for the Young Harris College women's tennis team for three seasons, from 2021-2024. 

As a freshman, Meghna played in 18 singles matches and won five, and19 doubles matches, with seven wins (career-high). Overall, in her first season in Young Harris, Mallath won 12 matches, and would continue to improve that total each year 

Year two in the Enchanted Valley showed great improvement on the court for Meghna, as she won nine of 21 singles matches, adding four more singles wins from year one. Mallath also won six doubles matches, and overall, had 15 total wins as a sophomore. 

In her final season (2023-24), Meghna played in a career-high 44 matches, with 22 singles and 22 doubles matches played. Mallath won a career-high 11 singles matches, and added six doubles wins in year three. Overall, 17 wins in a single season was again, a career mark for Mallath, as the Mountain Lions women's tennis team made it to the Conference Carolinas Semifinals. 

During her time in the Enchanted Valley, Mallath won 25 singles matches and 19 doubles matches, for a total of 44 wins. 

Meghna Mallath shared her thoughts on the opportunity to join the tennis coaching staff at Young Harris College; "I will always consider myself a proud Mountain Lion. When it comes to assisting a program, I had no doubt in my mind the YHC team, community, and Coach Marcy would be the perfect fit for me (once again)!" 

Although Mallath was successful on the tennis courts, she was the epitome of the term "student-athlete" when enrolled at Young Harris College. During her three years as a student-athlete of YHC, Meghna Mallath earned: Three PBC Gold Scholar Presidential Honor Roll Awards, two ITA Academic Awards (2022 & 2023), two D2 ADA Academic Achievement Awards (2022 & 2023), the 2023 PBC Elite 16 award, was named to the CSC Academic All-District Team (2023 & 2024), named to the 2023 PBC Team of Academic Distinction, and earned the ITA Arthur Ashe Award.  

Mallath is an alumnus of Young Harris College, as she graduated from Young Harris in the Spring of 2024, majoring in Business Statistics and Analytics. Meghna joins the tennis coaching staff for the 2024-25 season, with non-tournament season play already underway.
