Young Harris, GA| The Mountain Lions men's lacrosse team doubled their win total from 2023 during the 2024 season, while adding a Confernce Carolinas Tournament appearance. Thomas Castiglia started in three of the five games played in April and was dominant in his three starts. Altogether, he won two of three starts, with the loss coming in their Conference Carolinas Tournament contest against Barton College.
Castiglia's first start of April came against the Emmanuel Lions, a home game, in which the Mountain Lions dominated from start to finish, securing a 16-6 win. Castiglia was a major contributor for Young Harris in the win, playing the entire game in net, and earning the win. Thomas allowed just six goals, while saving 19 shots on goal, which started off what would eventually become his Freshman of the Month campaign.
In Thomas Castiglia's second start of the month, the Mountain Lions faced off against Lees-McRae College; in the game, Young Harris scored 16 goals, and with Thomas as their starting goalkeeper, they surrendered just eight goals, on their way to a 16-8 victory. Castiglia faced 20 shots on goal in his 60 minutes in net and saved 12 Bobcat attempts; starting his April Freshman of the month campaign.
As the conference tournament began, YHC put their trust in Thomas Castiglia, and while the offense was not firing on all cylinders, the Mountain Lions goalkeeper was. Castiglia started the game and played 45 total minutes for Young Harris, and he was peppered with Barton College shots from the time he settled in net, to his eventual end. The Bulldogs fired off 41 shots in the game, with 25 shots on goal. Castiglia went on to save eight SOG, while surrendering 11 goals to the Barton College offensive assault. The Mountain Lions eventually fell to Barton, by a score of 14-3, but Castiglia's three April starts did not go unnoticed by the Conference Carolinas brass, as these three starts earned him men's lacrosse freshman of the month honors. In totality, Thomas Castiglia faced 64 SOG in the month of April, he allowed just 25 goals, and saved 39 shots that came on net.
