YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris women's tennis (11-11, 5-4) lost 4-3 against Barton (15-3, 8-1) on Monday at the Bob & Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex. The Mountain Lions got within a point of winning the match but couldn't complete the comeback. The win clinched at least a share of the conference regular season title for the Bulldogs.
QUOTING HEAD COACH MARCY O'CONNOR:
"It was a very competitive match. We went down 1-0 losing the doubles point, but the girls never gave up. They fought hard to get the team within one point of winning the match. At three all in the overall match score it came down to Luciana who lost 4-6 in a close 3
rd set. We look forward to the conference tournament!"
INSIDE THE MATCH:
- Barton swept all three doubles matches to grab the opening point.
- Silvia Fernandez-Trabadelo was dominant for the Bulldogs and won her second singles match in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
- Simone Mercier earned a point for YHC, beating Tilde Howeler (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) in first singles.
- Meghna Mallath and Viviana Gomez won their singles matches in straight sets, to tie the overall match score at three.
- It all came down to the line three singles match between Luciana Bejarano and Ruya Mavi. After losing the first set 6-3, Bejarano battled back to take the second set 6-4. Luciana had a chance to win, but in the end, Mavi won the set 6-4 and clinched the victory for Barton.
