Young Harris, GA| The Mountain Lions women's tennis team battled hard against the Flying Fleet on Saturday (Apr. 13) afternoon at the Bob & Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex in Young Harris. Erskine College took two of three doubles matches from YHC to claim the first point. The Mountain Lions won three singles matches to go up 3-2 over the Flying Fleet, but as the final two singles matches wrapped up, YHC lost both in the third round, and Erskine squeaked out a 4-3 win.
The Mountain Lions move to 9-10 overall and 3-3 in Conference Carolinas matches. Erskine advanced to 16-2 overall and 7-0 in conference matches.
QUOTING HEAD COACH MARCY O'CONNOR:
"It was a really close match! The women lost the doubles point and battled back to win three singles and go up 3-2 overall with two matches remaining. The final two matches both went to three sets, but we lost both, ending in a 3-4 loss to Erskine."
Marcy added, "The girls battled hard and gave themselves a good chance at a great win, it just did not go our way today. There are a lot of positives to take away and embrace going forward into the rest of our conference matches."

Simone Mercier and Holly Ashford picked up the lone doubles win for the Mountain Lions (6-3).

Luciana Bejarano (7-6 and 6-3), Viviana Gomez (7-6 and 7-5), and Catarina Marcko Ferreira (7-2 and 6-2) put the Mountain Lions ahead 3-2, with their three singles wins.

Emily Bush (3-6, 7-6, and 4-6), Meghna Mallath (6-7, 6-4, and 1-6), and Simone Mercier (6-2, 4-6, and 1-6) put up a great fight against Erskine's heavy hitters, but all just fell short in round three.

Erskine has won 14 consecutive matches.
