Lander Bearcat Invitational YHC Women's Results
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | While on the road over the weekend, the Mountain Lions came home with several singles and doubles victories (Oct 11th – 12th). They faced Augusta, Belmont Abbey, and Lander on the other side of the net.
vs AUGUSTA (Oct 11th): Young Harris was in total control to start this tournament, winning three of four singles matches and two of three doubles. Simone Mercier won (7-6 (5), 6-3) over Andrea Gonzalez. Futaba Saito picked up a (6-3, 1-6, 10-8) win over Augusta's Priscilla Landi. Lastly, Maud Scholten came out victorious (7-5, 6-3) over Julia Palma. On the doubles side, Mercier/Saito won with a final score of 6-3 in addition to Stanfield/Gomez pulling out a victory (7-6 (2)).
vs BELMONT ABBEY (Oct 11th): The Mountain Lions had a clean sweep in the singles matches. Four victories were produced by Saito (6-4, 6-4), Mercier (6-2, 6-2), Ashford (6-0, 6-7 (7), 10-4), and Stanfield (5-7, 6-3, 10-4). YHC also stayed strong in doubles, winning two of three. Mercier/Scholten defeated Hendricks/Burkhalter (6-3). Saito/Gomez executed and finished (6-2) over Elliott/Collyer of Belmont Abbey.
vs LANDER (Oct 12th): In the early morning matches, singles #2, #3, and #4 all ended in favor of the Mountain Lions. Callie Stanfield defeated Bailee Martin (6-4, 6-1). Following that, Maud Scholten dominated her match finishing with a final score of (6-3, 6-0). Holly Ashford came out on top of Anna Grubbs (6-1, 7-6, (4)) to finish off the singles for the morning. Viviana Gomez faced a challenging Mille Elsborg and came up short. The Ashford/Saito duo worked very well together, winning (6-2) over Lander's Hannah/Evie. Unfortunately, YHC's Mercier/Scholten and Stanfield/Gomez teams were faced with a bit of a challenge and came up short.
UP NEXT: The Mountain Lions will host the YHC/UNG Hidden Duel Invite October 18th through October 20th, at the Bob & Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex.
