Mountain Lions Pull Out Victory Against Converse University

Spartanburg, SC| Young Harris hit the road on Saturday to take on the Valkyries from Converse University, the Mountain Lions got off to a hot start, leading by 21 points with just under five minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter. The Valkyries battled all the way back within two points with under a minute left in regulation, but it was the Mountain Lions defense that clinched down late to seal the victory, winning 53-51. 

The Mountain Lions moved up to 8-12 overall this season and 4-6 in Conference Carolinas. Converse University fell to 8-11 on the season and 4-6 in conference play. Young Harris will return to action next Saturday when they travel to Banner Elk, N.C. to play Lees-McRae College at 2 PM. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

  • Crystal Corley put up a big performance, scoring 20 points and grabbing 13 rebounds for a double-double. 

  • Kamryn Bates led the Mountain Lions with five assists, while also scoring four points. 

  • Jordan Brown was the Valkyries leading scorer on Saturday afternoon, with 13 points. 

  • Young Harris outshot Converse 40.9% (18-44) to 29.2% (19-65). 

  • The game included five lead changes and three ties before the Mountain Lions prevailed.
