Box Score YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Carly Winters and
Mackenzie Johnson combined for 47 points as Young Harris College recorded a 77-69 overtime victory over Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball victory Wednesday (Feb. 1 ) evening at the Harp Recreation & Commencement Center.
The Mountain Lions improved to 9-10 overall and to 5-6 in the Peach Belt, while the Bearcats fell to 7-13 and 4-7. YHC stays at home Saturday (Feb. 4) for a 1:30 p.m. PBC contest against Clayton State University.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Lander forced the overtime at 61 after Tanyia Gordon's layup with four seconds left in regulation.
- Young Harris used a 9-0 run to open up a 72-64 lead with 2:07 to play. Dustie Obah started the rally with a three-pointer and Winters connected on back-to-back three-pointers.
- Lander got as close as four points (73-69), but Obah thwarted the rally by scoring the final four points for the Mountain Lions.
- The 11 three-pointer by the Mountain Lions are tied for fifth most in a game.
- Winters tied her own school record with eight three-pointers in the contest. Winters, who finished with a game-high 24 points, extended her career three-pointers record to 195.
- Johnson finished with another double double with 23 points and 19 rebounds. Johnson shot 9-of-13 from the field and also grabbed seven offensive rebounds. Johnson moved up fourth on the YHC all-time scoring list with 849, passing Peyton Robertson (2011-15) who had scored 849. Johnson, who has 706 career rebounds, is 52 rebounds shy of becoming the all-time rebounding record.
- Obah finished with 14 points, including seven points in the extra period.
- Kalen Surles contributed nine points, four assists and three steals.
- JaMari Frederick dished out six assists for the Mountain Lions.
- YHC outrebounded Lander 45-42.
