YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Mackenzie Johnson scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Young Harris College picked up a 72-67 Peach Belt Conference women's basketball victory over the University of South Carolina-Aiken Saturday (Jan. 21) afternoon at the Harp Recreation & Commencement Center.
The Mountain Lions improved to 7-9 overall and to 3-5 in the Peach Belt, while the Pacers dropped to 10-8 and 4-4. YHC returns to action Wednesday (Jan. 25) when they face its Blood Mountain rival University of North Georgia at 5:30 p.m. in Dahlonega, Georgia.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- The game featured 10 ties and six lead changes. Neither team led by more than eight points.
- Young Harris led 32-30 at the half and used a 5-2 run at the end of the third quarter to take a 49-42 lead.
- USC Aiken got as close as two points (60-58)Â with 3:13 to play, but back-to-back baskets from Trinity Edwards and a JaMari Frederick layup pushed the Mountain Lion. lead out back out to eight points (66-58) with 1:44 to go.
- Frederick and Edwards finished with 11 points apiece. Edwards pulled down seven rebounds, while Frederick dished out five assists.
- Johnson connected on 10-of-15 attempts from the field.Â
- Young Harris scored 27 points off USC Aiken's turnovers.
