MARS HILL, N.C. | The Young Harris College volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday (Sept. 3) at the Tony Fontanelle Memorial Volleyball Tournament hosted by Mars Hill University in Chambers Gymnasium.
The Mountain Lions started the day with a thrilling five-set victory over King (Tenn.) University, before losing to tournament host Mars Hill in the nightcap. YHC took the first two sets against the Tornado 25-21 and 25-11 before King tied the match at 2 after winning sets three and four by identical 25-17 scores. Young Harris won the decisive fifth set 15-5. Against Mars Hill, the Lions swept YHC by scores of 25-14, 25-21 and 25-15.
The Mountain Lions improved to 2-5 and will return to the Harp Recreation and Commencement Center Wednesday (Sept. 7) when they host Emmanuel (Ga.) College.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
King (Tenn.)
- The Mountain Lions are 2-0 all-time against the Tornado with both matches being decided in a fifth set.
- YHC hit .220 with 61 kills as a team.
- Nicole Klucharich had a career-high 25 kills as she hit .320 in 50 swings, while Shelby Mullins had 11 kills and hit .333 in 27 swings. Alex Pierre added nine kills and Sophie Bearden posted eight more.
- Mollie Lawrence distributed a career-high 45 assists.
- Kori Still dug a career 32 balls, while Klucharich added a career-high 15 digs. Joha Bernis added eight and Kallee McKinney and Lawrence each had seven more.
- Mullins and Klucharich each collected three total blocks.
Mars Hiil
- Lily Hidalgo led the Mountain Lions with seven kills, while Klucharich had six.
- Lawrence tallied 14 assists, while Alex Boydstone had six more.
- Still (14) and Klucharich (10) each registered double figures in digs.
