AIKEN, S.C. | The Young Harris College men's soccer team notched their sixth clean sheet of the season as the Mountain Lions trotted past the University of South Carolina-Aiken 5-0 in a Peach Belt Conference match Saturday (Sept. 24) afternoon at the Pacer Pit.
The Mountain Lions improved to 4-1-3 overall and moved into a first-place tie in the PBC with a 3-0-2 record. The Pacers fell to 1-6-0 and 1-4-0. YHC returns to the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field for a 3:30 p.m. match Wednesday (Sept. 28) against Clayton State University.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Five different Mountain Lions found the scoring column.
- Stathis Paplomatos recorded his second shutout of the year as he had four saves.
- Riccardo Sambugaro gave the Mountain Lions a 1-0 lead at the 16:26 mark as he knocked in a rebound of Mikkel Goeling's inital shot. It was Sambugaro's first goal of the season.
- Goeling's penalty kick 55 seconds prior to halftime put YHC up 2-0. It was Goeling's second goal of 2022.
- Goeling fed Jamie Lapsley for the Mountain Lions' third goal in the 66th minute before Lorenzo DiGregorio's steal and score in the 82nd minute put YHC up 4-0.
- Alexsi Morel rounded out the scoring with five second remaining off a Quinn Thompson assist.
- YHC outshot USC Aiken 20-9, including a 10-4 margin on goal.
